Veterinary Physiotherapy & Hydrotherapy
Information for Vets
Hydrotherapy and Physiotherapy
-
We recognise the importance of complementary therapy in conjunction with conventional veterinary medicine and not as an alternative or stand alone treatment.
-
In accordance with the RCVS guidelines on complementary therapies, all patients must have been assessed by a veterinary surgeon prior to treatment.
-
All patients must have a Veterinary Consent form signed and completed by a veterinary surgeon in accordance with the Veterinary Surgeons (Exemptions) Order (2015), available to download from our website. Alternatively, veterinary surgeons may refer a patient directly using the same document.
-
We request a copy of the patient's clinical history to rule out any potential contraindications for treatment.
-
In the interest of health and safety, patients should be up-to-date with flea and worming treatment and annual vaccinations.
-
All treatment is carried out in accordance with NARCH guidelines by suitably qualified and insured veterinary physiotherapists. Staff are members of the National Association of Veterinary Physiotherapists (NAVP), qualified to degree level, committed to upholding the professionalism and continued professional development outlined within the NAVP code of conduct.
-
Water quality is regularly tested and maintained (2-3 times daily) to ensure the health and safety of our patients and to avoid contamination.
-
Should we have concerns regarding a patient, our protocol is to refer back to the veterinary surgeon immediately for further investigation and treatment.
-
Veterinary surgeons are able to request reports regarding a particular patient at any time, for more information contact us.
-
For post-operative rehabilitation, patients must be signed off by a veterinary surgeon to begin hydrotherapy once the operative wound has healed to minimise the risk of infection.
-
All canine therapies take place at our state-of-the-art canine therapy centre in Clophill, Bedfordshire. If you would like to arrange a site visit prior to referring a patient, contact us.
If you have any further questions regarding referring a patient or would like to discuss the benefits of hydrotherapy and physiotherapy, please do not hesitate to contact us.
